I am currently one-tenth of my way through the Rocksmith 60 day challenge. The developers of Rocksmith challenge players to play the game for an hour a day for 60 days. The hope is that at the end of that time you will be able to play the guitar. After only 6 days of playing the game, I feel so much more confident in my skills with the guitar and it is fun. I can even play a scale! Typing also feels different as the callouses develop on my fingers. In honor of the current Steam sale on Rocksmith and most of it’s DLC, here is a list of the top 5 DLC packs.
1. Weezer Song Pack
Island in the Sun
Undone – The Sweater Song
My Name is Jonas
Two songs from the green album and 3 from the Blue album sounds like a great deal to me. Learning that riff from My Name is Jonas is so rewarding and difficult, I have not learned it yet. Here’s hoping that they release some tracks from the upcoming Pacific Daydream.
2. Anniversary Song Pack
Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley
I Want You Back by the Jackson 5
Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
Drops of Jupiter by Train
Hey Ya! by Outkast
Some Nights by FUN.
Drops of Jupiter is my personal standout here. Playing that melody becomes infectious. But all of the songs are great beginner songs that help get you started learning the mechanics of Rocksmith.
Rondo all Turca by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Moonlight Sonata: Adagio Sostenuto by Ludwig van Beethoven
In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg
Little Fugue in G minor by Johann Sebastian Bach
Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner
These are so fun to play on the easier difficulties. They get very difficult, so if you are in for a challenge then these should be a no brainer. Also the price can not be beat, there must not be much of a licensing issue with music from the last century or two. Also Moonlight Sonata acts as a key plot device in Resident Evil, video games yay.
4. Rocksmith Goes to the Movies
Back to the Future
Batman – Theme
A Knife in the Dark (from The Fellowship of the Ring)
Jurassic Park – Theme
Superman – Main Title
I am a sucker for anything Jurassic Park related, so this was a must buy for me. However, the Lord of the Rings song was a surprise hit and I really enjoy playing through that one, I just wish the tone was a little bit lighter on some of the songs. I do not think electric guitar was the primary instrument for many of these songs original versions. We will have to wait for Rocksmith – Violin Edition!
Enjoy the Steam sale while it lasts! It will be over tomorrow, but the DLC will still be available and is still worth full price.
