Destiny is about to undergo a whole lot of changes with The Taken King, but one thing that will remain the same is that we will be waiting for Xur to visit us and sell some of the brand new exotic weapons. It will be a sad day when my currrent favorite exotic weapons are no longer the most powerful items in the galaxy. I will soon replace my beloved Gjallarhorn and No Land Beyond for some of these new creations. Even my Guardian will undergo some changes as we looked at some of the new armor coming to game on September 15th with the release of The Taken King.
Read on to get my take on three new exotic weapons coming soon to our favorite servant of the nine.
“The Chaperone Exotic shotgun fires a single slug shot and grants an Agility boost when equipped. Your precision kills will grant a brief increase to Handling, Range, Rate of Fire, and Stability.” -Xur
I have never been a fan of exotic shotguns. The Chaperone is no different. Only firing a single slug means that you will experience a lot of reloading and the gun probably won’t have a high magazine size. Destiny has consistently been about killing wave after wave of enemies, and it has always been more beneficial to have a large magazine with less reloading.
The agility boost seems like a pretty good perk for the Crucible. I can see people using this gun to run around maps and shot gunning around corners. I do not think that this perk makes the gun any better than using some other legendary shotgun.
I will say that the look of the gun is pretty cool. Even though I am on Xbox One, I have always been a fan of the Fourth Horseman. This is a gun that I look forward to trying out, if only briefly.
“Sleeper Simulant: a Fusion Rifle equipped in your Heavy Weapon slot. This weapon’s laser tears through enemies and ricochets on hard surfaces.” -Xur
Bungie stop trying to make fusion rifles a thing. Sometimes I feel like the game is forcing my to use fusion rifles as often as possible. With exotic fusion rifles quests and even the quest line to get Murmur. Now we have a fusion rifle that takes the place of my heavy weapon. No thanks.
The actual perk of tearing through enemies and ricochets on hard surfaces seems pretty cool. But I need a very good reason to get rid of my rocket launcher, and then I need another good reason to get rid of my machine gun. I would consider using this gun if Bungie also made a rocket launcher that took the place of my secondary weapon.
I do think that this gun will be very powerful and will rip through waves of enemies very quickly. But only if they are in a straight line, or if you get a good bounce off the wall. If there is another exotic rocket launcher on the scale of Gjallarhorn, this gun will never leave player’s vaults.
“This Fusion Rifle will attach projectiles to your foes and detonate with a delayed Void blast. Multikills with this weapon will drop Orbs for your allies.” -Xur
Okay did I just say stop trying to make fusion rifles a thing? This gun looks great. As I’ve said before, I do not like fusion rifles. But this gun seems like a scorch cannon that makes orbs.
I like the idea of rethinking the usefulness of orbs. Many of the armor pieces that we covered yesterday, seem like they have some added perks for collecting lots of orbs. As BK said, this could be a bad thing if you collect orbs in order to recharge your melee or grenades, instead of recharging your super.
This gun will make orbs that can recharge whatever you want! Just shoot an enemy and blow up him and his friends with the Void blast and everybody gets some orbs.
I foresee lots of skill shots with this gun both in the Crucible and in the new Raids, Strikes and story missions. I hope it is as satisfying as it sounds. I always liked using the scorch cannon during some of the Queen’s Bounty missions and this sounds like more of that same fun feeling.
The Chaperone looks like any other exotic shotgun, but might get some use in the Crucible. Sleeper Simulant is an exotic fusion rifle that takes your heavy weapon slot, I will not give up a rocket launcher for this. Telesto sounds like a scorch cannon that generates orbs.
There will be a lot to learn about Destiny in the coming month. But one thing we know for sure, say goodbye to many of your favorite exotic and legendary weapons. They will be outdated soon. I only hope that we get some more cool and novel exotics to take their place.
Until next time, tell Xur I said hello.
